The American Gold Eagle is the official investment gold coin of the United States, minted by the U.S. Mint since 1986. Like the Krugerrand, it uses a 22-karat alloy (gold, copper, and silver) for greater durability, but contains exactly 1 troy ounce of pure gold. In 2021, the reverse was redesigned for the first time in 35 years, improving security features.
